Turtle — Mechanical Wooden Model, 269 Pieces

Bought this for my husband, he loved it. I believe he said it's a bit tidious and fidly to put together, but other than that no complaints. It was also bigger than we expected, about the width of the box it comes in. So make sure you have the space for it.

HELP!! I managed to break piece #66 and damage #65. Who do I contact to get those pieces replaced?

This was a gift to my dad who loves wood working, detailed puzzles, and spiders.He has been enjoying working on it, there have been pieces that do not fit together as well as they should, the too tight ones he sands a tiny bit and it's good. The loose ones are what he is trying to figure out how to handle. He is thinking a bit of wood glue on the piece, let it dry, then sand to proper size. That is a bit more work than I had intended for him to have to put into this gift, but he is having a good time!

I found this a very quick and easy model to make easy to get pieces out and put together. all legs move.

This is an awesome puzzle! Very tedious and exacting to put together. Perfect for anyone who loves to do intricate work with their hands. It will keep you occupied for hours. I would not recommend this for children as it has rather delicate and frustrating pieces. But it is a joy to assemble and lose yourself in the experience for hours on end. Excellent excellent craft! My husband put this together for me. It's the cutest puzzle..........walks too!!!

I've done several of these kits (film projector, clocks, etc.) and this was a great challenge. Some of the steps require a lot of dexterity (hint - for step 10, a nickel is the perfect size to keep the structure from collapsing until you get it stable.) My works ok, goes a few feet anyway; it looks great!My complaint is that the plywood is very brittle. I was very careful pushing parts out of the boards and snapping pieces in place but in spite of my care, some of the pieces chipped and I had to resort to glue.

I bought this puzzle from the manufacturer before it was offered by Amazon. It was a gift for my father who is quite experienced with wooden puzzles. He says that it went together easily (not the usually issues with tiny holes, toothpicks of wrong diameter, missing pieces, and other problems that one could have with wooden 3-D puzzles). He wound it up and it walked just like a turtle. My father laughed and laughed about it. He was so pleasantly surprised.

Fun to assemble...well written directions...little or no delamination or breakout of the parts.AND!! It trots around like its alive!!

I’ve built wood puzzles from 3 different brands, this being the first from EWA. I find the tolerances too variable, the toothpicks and dowels aren’t consistent in diameter, the plywood chips too easily, the laser cut holes are inconsistent in diameter, some of the laser cuts aren’t finished. After initially struggling to push the toothpicks through and breaking some toothpicks, I decided to drill out all the toothpick holes by hand as I get to them, holding each part in one hand and the power drill in the other hand. Luckily I had the right size drill bit for the toothpicks. The dowels are tough, they are either totally loose or are too tight. I had to use a hammer to tap the tight ones through. Luckily the wood did not split. The 4 dowels in the wind-up handle were loose. I had my doubts, but didn’t see how to improve it easily. The dowels lean over when when I wind the rubber bands, but it has held up so far. Maybe it was the right decision not to glue them in. Still this could have been designed to be more sturdy.Just judging by other EWA products I thought this was going to be simple. I was surprised that this was a relatively lengthy build, which is good. Part of the reason is there are 8 legs.Most important to me is that the instructions are good. They are not wordy, but the pictures did most of the talking. I got hung up on step 17 (page 18) where my assembly looked so close to the picture but still off by a little. So many times I wanted to move on but kept trying to figure it out. Then I recognized some details in the picture that got me through. My assembly then looked exactly like the picture.This would have been a 4 stars review if the spider didn’t run the very first time. Seeing it crawl across the floor the first attempt without fidgeting with it was satisfying.
